Urgent - Please Spotlight:
I regret to tell you that Christina Fonthes - a dear friend and organiser of Rainbow Noir has been held against her will in The Congo - she was on a family holiday with her mother who has decided to have Christina ‘cured’ of her sexuality.
Christina has managed to escape from her aunt’s house and is currently hiding out with a friend. She has access to internet and has been communicating with us via email. The next available flight is 2nd September - 5 days away! Chris needs help and protection from the British Embassy in Congo but her mother has reported her missing and therefore we need to get in contact with both the UK Home Office and UK embassy in Congo to let them know that she is in danger and that her mother is lying/the one endangering her life!!PLEASE SHARE THIS ON ALL YOUR NETWORKS. CALL, EMAIL, TWEET the British embassy on behalf of Christina - the more we call, the more attention it will bring to her case and hopefully they will act quicker in getting Christina to a safe place. HER MOTHER HAS HER PASSPORT AND TRAVELING DOCUMENTS!CHRISTINA’S LIFE IS IN DANGER. PLEASE DO AS MUCH AS YOU CAN.
If you can help please contact @RainbowNoirMCR or @WritersofColour on twitter.

I need feminism because most men’s restrooms still aren’t equipped with baby changing stations. As someone who was married to a man who had sole custody of his young son, I’m hyperaware that feminism means EQUALITY, not female superiority. Feminism should and does support a man’s right to be as much of a parent to his child(ren) as any mother is allowed/expected to be.

This is a constant problem for Mr. Tea and myself. We’ve got twins, so even though I can change one kid on the change table in the ladies’ room, he’s left standing sort of awkwardly in the lobby with a messy child while I change one, come back, and get the other.

Nobody’s suggesting that men aren’t parents, so the lack of change tables goes well beyond ‘gender role reinforcing’ and straight into ‘ridiculous’.

My dad actually almost got kicked out of a mall once for changing my brother in the womens room of a mall. The only reason they didn’t call the cops on him was because the ladies in the room supported him.

I’d never even considered this but I support it

We dare you to say we don’t live in a rape culture.

Amazingly, not The Onion:

“[W]e now have young men telling Bloomberg News that they basically view their female peers as rape bombs just waiting to explode and ruin their lives.”

I REPEAT: THIS IS NOT THE ONION

*flips table*

I wish I could say I can’t believe men would say such dumb shit.

Literally, go fuck yourselves. Bye.

Guys please read this article, the headline is horrifying but the content is incredible look at this

There are so many ways to flirt and have really enjoyable casual sex without being predatory, but we never talk about them. The importance of listening to the person you’re interested in having sex with and being alert to non-verbal cues certainly isn’t being taught in schools, and this kind of thing generally isn’t modeled in pop culture.

This is what happens when we when we publish stupid piece after stupid piece blaming women’s behavior for sexual assault, when we don’t encourage young people to communicate openly and regularly during romantic and sexual encounters, when we don’t teach affirmative consent or really any kind of sex education.

Bless you, Katie McDonough, for all of this.

TUMBLR PROF ANNOUNCEMENT: If you are trans or nonbinary and you are in the same situation as the student above, email your professors before class starts. I understand that it might be uncomfortable, but generally professors are absolutely happy to accommodate you. I know I always will be!
If your professor does not respond positively, contact the Dean or the campus LGBT+ resource center with a copy of the email and show them that you are concerned about gender discrimination in the classroom.

Also this is a link to the template I used to write this email, and I’ve seen another similar template going around, and this was extremely helpful.

Also, if a professor disagrees with your email/request and continues to aggressively misgender you… Go to some authority! Especially if your school has a non discrimination clause that guarantees your safety!
I cannot tell you how horrifying it is, how distracting it is, to be constantly misgendered. I made the mistake of not reporting transphobic professors and have sense heard similar complaints from my peers.
Find faculty to talk to, tell them exactly what is happening, and if it continues, take action. Even if it is “just a name/just pronouns,” you deserve respect. I failed classes for this sort of thing, and I don’t want anyone to follow in my shoes.

See what I did there, with referring back to a previous slide show? Me and my narrative techniques!

I disagree that sex is not an essential component for a relationship. I’m not saying you should make your partner have sex with you if they’re not willing, and some relationships work fine and dandy without sex, but generally speaking, a healthy relationship often has sex (unless discussed/agreed with otherwise). Generally the first sign of an unhealthy relationship is a lack of sex. If they consistently don’t want to have sex with you, there is usually something wrong or something that has not been discussed in the relationship that should be. If a no sex relationship works for you, then great! But please don’t try to act like sex is not part of a healthy relationship for a majority of people, because it is.
